  • Active orogens, structure and evolution, associated hazards
  • Earthquake geology, active faults (rates, datations, paleoseismology)
  • Teaching tectonics, structural geology, and related processes in the field.

EXECUTIVE EDITORS

1) Role responsibilities
■ Receiving submissions and carrying out a first-pass assessment to determine a priori suitability of submissions for publication in Tektonika
■ Checking the scientific integrity of submisssions
■ Delegating individual submissions to Associate Editors (who will oversee the peer review process)
■ Participating in updating journal policies, guidelines and procedures to better reflect the evolving needs of the journal over time
■ Providing assistance in making final decisions regarding acceptance for publication following completion of the peer review process, when needed or if required by Associate Editors.
■ Ensuring that submissions are handled in a fair and in a timely manner
■ Acting as a ready team of potential reviewers with an active interest in the success of the journal

Executive Editors' values should align with the Diamond Open Access ethos of Tektonika, and they should be commited to ensuring best open-science practices are followed. Executive Editors should be willing to act as mentors and provide guidance to Associate Editors, as needed. At times, Associate Editors may seek the involvement of Executive Editors in decision making.

Expected term length: 3 years
Expected workload after launch: no higher than 2 manuscripts/month

2) Recruitment criteria
○ PhD degree in tectonics, structural geology or adjacent fields (or relevant experience)
○ Prior editorial experience (highly desirable)
○ Commitment to the roles' 3 year term time
○ Willingness to act as mentors to less experienced members of the editorial team
○ Enthusiasm towards diamond open access publishing, and commitment to the success of Tektonika and advancement of open science.



ASSOCIATE EDITORS

1) Role responsibilities
■ Handling individual manuscripts from submission to outcome, and doing so in accordance with Tektonika’s editor guidelines (to be especifically defined by October-December).
■ Seeking out potential reviewers and facilitating the peer review process from start to finish
■ Determining whether articles are of appropriate scope and quality to be published in Tektonika, with support from Executive Editors when required.
■ Managingand helping resolve author and reviewer complaints, escalating them to their respective Executive Editor when required.

Initially, we foresee that not all Associate Editors will be handling a manuscript – this will depend on submission numbers. When not acting as Associate Editors, this group may act as an additional pool of potential reviewers.

Expected term length: 2 years
Expected workload after launch: no higher than 1 manuscripts/month


2) Recruitment criteria
○ PhD degree in tectonics, structural geology or adjacent fields (or relevant experience)
○ Prior editorial experience is appreciated but not essential
○ Enthusiasm towards diamond open access publishing, and commitment to the success of Tektonika and advancement of open science.
